No matter what you do, there will always be someone to find fault with your actions. An important aspect of maturing is realizing this, and having enough self- confidence to not let the haters bring you down. Maturity is standing strong and maintaining your values, whether people agree with you or not. At the end of the day what matters is if you remained true to yourself. Of course it feels good to be complimented by others, and people’s approval matters, but there will always be people who won’t agree with you, and you just need to accept that and do what you feel is right.

Not being too mainstream and having the confidence to stick with what you believe is a major part of maturity. Without accepting responsibility for your actions, it is impossible to be mature. Responsibility is owning up to your actions and controlling yourself. It is being a dependable person, reacting well in a crisis, and taking care of what you need to. Being organized is a key factor towards being responsible, because if you can’t be careful with your own belongings then you can’t be trusted with anyone else’s things.

Along with being responsible comes privileges, such as being trusted and given more responsibilities. Making the decision to control yourself and your actions is one of the biggest characteristics Of maturity. Contrary to popular belief, maturity does not simply come with age. It comes when a person possesses the mental capability to grow from their past and take control of their future. Being mature is never giving up, never compromising your beliefs despite peer pressure, and taking ownership for your actions. Age can play a role in this, but it is not necessarily the determining factor.
