Every day when we get up in the morning, we have the ability
to make a choice of what kind of a day we want. It doesn’t matter if it’s
raining, snowing or the sun is shining. When the alarm goes off in the morning,
what is the first thing you think about?
“Oh No!……….I gotta get up” or “The Alarm already?” or “I can’t believe I
have to go to that crappy job again” or how about “What days is today?….oh….not
Saturday” as you shuffle your feet into the kitchen, make you morning coffee
and pour yourself a bowl of Quisp……and think about how tired you are and how
awful the day is going to be. If this sounds like you, you are not alone. Thousands,
if not Millions of people think like this and feel this way. The good news is that you have a choice to
think and act differently. You have a choice to change your way of thinking and
change your attitude. I hear constantly, “But I’m not a morning person”. Nobody
is asking you to jump out of bed, perform a few Pirouettes and sing loudly, “I
feel Pretty…… “But you have no idea of the life I live”. Well, you’re right, I
don’t. But I do know that taking the time to Thank God for the moment you live
in is better than the alternative. I used to be that person that didn’t want to
get out of bed in the morning. I didn’t want to face the day. I could care
less. But there are so many things to be thankful for. I can breathe, walk,
see, hear, smell. I have a roof over my head, a loving wife and family, cars,
clothes, food. Little things that we take for granted every day. The first
thing I do when I wake up is thank Jesus for another day and another
opportunity in this world.
Every day, write down 1 thing or several things that you are
grateful for. For instance, if you have
brown eyes, write down I am grateful for my brown eyes. Don’t just write it
down for the sake of writing it. As you write it, say it out loud with feeling.

A list like this took me less than a minute. Some of these
things might seem silly. Be grateful for everything that you have and you will
realize you have a lot to be grateful for!
When negative thoughts enter your mind, come up with a way of
stopping them with one word. I use several one-word reminders. Whenever I find
myself doubting or thinking in a negative way I say to myself, “Cancel” Then
start your thoughts over. Just as a keyboard on a laptop has keys to refresh
what you are writing, such as “delete” or “escape” ESC……use that and start
over. An example is saying to yourself “I don’t think I will get that finished
today”. Say “Cancel” and say “I will get that finished today” or “Everything I
do is wrong”, Say “Delete” and then say “Everything I do is always right”. Say
it with a positive feeling.
Every day is your Birthday. That means every day we get a
chance to start over and start a new beginning of change in our lives. We can
change who we are and what we think about. Write a list of things down that you
don’t like and/or don’t like about yourself.
Since we were young, we’ve had the ability to attract people
and events in our lives without even knowing it based on our thoughts. Think
back when you were young in school and you knew that you would do great on your
test and you did. And when you thought you would do poorly you did. Henry Ford,
the founder of the Ford Motor Company said, “If you think you can or you think
you can’t, you’re right”
