In the general aspect of both personal and social health, several issues and elements are considered to be very critical due to their significant impact of the welfare of the involved individual. In this concern, health advocates and researchers determine the involved and contributory factors in each health-related problem and the psychological characteristics of the said condition. In particular to this concern is the problem of alcoholism which is considered alarming due to its influential characteristics and the detrimental damages it can cause to the human body in aspects of physical, mental, psychological, and emotional. In term, the concept of alcoholism is mainly considered as a psychological condition of becoming addicted or dependent on alcoholic beverage particularly its intoxicating characteristics. By critical consideration, the concept of alcoholism is often view in alternating view whether on levels of use or abuse however, the danger pose by the characteristics of alcohol is still present on both accounts. On the analysis of the foundation and the contributory elements of alcoholism, health advocates and researchers have postulated two primary views regarding the nature of alcoholism. First is the genetic composition of the person drawing high possibility for the development of alcoholism and second is the view discrediting alcoholism as a medical disease but something that is being learned or acquired psychologically from experience.
The first view mainly relates alcoholism in the biological nature of the person involved drawing the possibility of higher in some people to become alcohol-addicted individuals. In this concern, researchers and studies have determined a link between the physiology of the human body and the intoxicating composition of alcoholic beverages outlining the conclusion that certain people are more susceptible or have a lower tolerance to alcohol intoxication. This characteristic is mainly rooted on the physiological composition of the human body and is based on the person’s genetic makeup thus, determining the factor that alcoholism can become a hereditary condition. On the other hand, the second view mainly points that alcoholism is a condition that is learned through psychological conditioning leading to the detrimental addiction towards the intoxicating effect of the said beverage.
In this view, people become addicted to the intoxicating effects of alcohol mainly as their resort for coping with stress. As alcohol drinking have a certain tranquilizing and anti-depressant effect on the mental and emotional aspects of the drinker, people learned to perceive this beverage as an aid towards their problematic life on which they developed dependency on this effect. In addition to this, alcohol and its effect is indeed addictive thus, its intoxicating effects eventually become part of the life of its drinker resulting to the problem of alcoholism. In general, the problem of alcohol addiction is indeed serious due to its detrimental effects on the physical, emotional, and psychological health of the person involved. Continuous regular consumption of alcohol can lead to serious damages and impairment of the normal development of the involved person however, dealing with this problem is likewise problematic due to the addicting effect of the said beverage. In addition, dependency with alcohol involved deeper reasons such as the two views that were mentioned. Indeed, dealing with this problem requires critical understand of the condition and background of the person involved thus, leading to the development of an effective strategy to counteract the alcohol dependency of the involved person.BibliographyWood, Samuel E.
