America has the biggest obesity problem in the world but it’s a global problem, and it causes bad health which shortens eves, and leaves families grieving for loved ones. Obesity affects nearly one in five children; likely in the future involve heart disease, diabetes and immobility (Jamie). British chef, Jamie Oliver States “This food revolution is about changing the way we eat. We need to start cooking again to make sure our children don’t grow up on a diet of processed food, at school or at home, and so they won’t have to battle obesity and diet related illnesses when they grow up.
Cooking is one of the most important skills a person can have and it has been proven that families who cook together eat better. A small change in your kitchen could save the like of someone you love. “(Jamie) Time and time again, we hear kids eat out too much, lack the proper in take of the correct vegetables, fruits and meats. Parents are not on same page to learn how to make healthy choices. Do you like feeding your children processed, starchy meals, and junk food? Do we not know how to make these healthy choices? Or are we just lazy?
I truly believe making healthy choices takes time, extra energy, and more money. As adults we don’t want to take the extra time, because our lives are so busy running our children, doing errands, etc. It’s simple, easy to pull into those convenient stores; fast food restaurants drive thrush’s and tertiary meals on the go. Also I believe majority of society feels that the fast pace of eating won’t affect our children. Guess what, Think Again!! Save a ton of money and encourage your kid’s development in ways that go beyond the kitchen.
First and foremost, yes cooking and preparing meals from scratch gives parents control over ingredients, and serving sizes of household meals. Don’t agree on the cost factor, because from my own experience (being a chef for 10 years) very costly to get started preparing meals at home form scratch. You need to be able to pick up the grade meat, chose fresh vegetables, and the seasonings that are used for preparation. Step out on the limb, really take an adventure and grow your own vegetables to save on the cost, this would give your children another fun experience all Of its own.
In a country where we spend 49 percent Of our food budget Of eating out, home cooking saves staggering amounts of money. When stating how you will be saving tons of money, at first you will not save. Meals will seem very expensive. Until you get your shelves stocked with you seasonings, your freezer stocked with meat, which can be purchased in bulk (cheaper), reach for fresh vegetables (which can be purchased at a local farmer’s market cheaper than in a grocery store)or grow them.
In today’s society/ ethnic culture, everyone’s work schedule and children’s activities most of the time are not coordinated around a meal, takes to much calculation. Many individuals that know do not sit down at any meal time together . In February, first lady Michelle Obama introduced an initiative called Let’s Move! To do something about the obesity situation (Want). Everyone coming together and learning the basics of cooking is going to teach us a better way of life and health.
