Yonkers is about a family that goes through a lot while they are together. The movie and the play both show how the family expresses their feeling towards one another. The play write and the movie have major differences. The characters are portrayed differently than they were in the book. The movie added something and took out other things. A major difference is the character Johnny. In the book we heard of him, in the movie we met him. Johnny is Belle’s love interest. In the story we knew very little about Johnny. We knew he had a reading handicap and he was an usher at a movie theater.
In the movie Johnny and Bella take a walk in the park in the afternoon. Bella didn’t ask to be introduced to his parents because she’s never been to his house in the book. In the play write everything Bella and Johnny did was at night and after a movie. Bella also did more things in the movie she wasn’t as clueless as she was in the book. Another major difference is that we didn’t meet the people going after Lieu. The men chasing Lieu didn’t wait outside the house for him, Instead They Called In The Play. Lieu also didn’t confront Arty and Jay when they were looking for the money in the store.
He waited until after to tell them e saw them looking for the money. They also didn’t go to a lake in the play. Lieu also didn’t use Jay to escape and steal the Mob’s car. Jay wasn’t apart of Louse’s getting away plan at all in the play. Lieu also didn’t give Bella five thousand dollars for the restaurant. Lieu is nicer in the movie than in the book. Another major difference is that Grandma is Softer in the movie. Grandma expressed a lot of emotions in the movie, She didn’t cry in the play at all. In the movie she cried when she realized her kids were not happy. She Showed Her emotions more than in the movie than in the play .
