Dr. Johnson’s Job History In healthcare industry, specialization is an important addition for one’s career to step up into higher position in an organization.Dr. Johnson’s current job responsibility as network medical director for the Southeast region of Vigilant-Xtra Mile Healthcare also the results of his previous experience that contribute to being job applicant that was attractive to Xtra Mile, and relevancy to current position and future career.
At current job, Dr.Johnson has following responsibility to developing and managing the professional medical network of providers and hospitals including providers’ recruitment process, negotiating contract, promoting the company’s disease management approaches, and maintaining National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) accreditation, to name a few (Judge and McLaughlin, n. d. ). Although this job is new for Dr.
Johnson, still, the recruiters at that time he applied to the new company see that he has capability and skills to handle these jobs by considering his previous job.According to the case, Dr. Johnson has several work experience that gives him the required skills to manage the technical issues in healthcare and interpersonal skills in communicating with people. In the first job, for example, Dr.
Johnson was a pharmaceutical salesman, which gave him the experiences to current job in terms of negotiating contract and promoting the company’s disease management approaches. In addition, his educational background as medical degree gives him the capability to handle the technical issue is healthcare (Judge and McLaughlin, n.d. ). 3.
Job Description The organization structure of Vigilant-Xtra Mile HealthCare is divided into six regional offices throughout the U. S. to handle this vast operation; there are three medical directors each with specific jobs. The first medical director is Network Medical Director, who is appointed to Dr. Johnson with report to each general manager in the six regions. His job includes developing and managing the professional medical network etc.Patient Management Director that is responsible for the utilization management, preauthorization, length-of-stay reviews, case management development, retrospective reviews, and disease management enrollment. The report of Patient Management Director is dedicated to core team at Wheeling, headquarter for healthcare operations.
In addition, there is also regional Quality Medical Director who is responsible for quality management staff in Boston.The salient difference between the three directors appear as the organization structure of Vigilant-Xtra Mile HealthCare can be described into three functions: sales and marketing that handled by the Network Medical Director; operation that handled by Patient Management Director; and customer service and internal operation that handled by Quality Medical Director. 4.
