However an insight is needed to explain if development and aging entities should be treated differently or should be viewed within the same perspectives (Ballets and Smith, 2004).Empathy across the lifespan study done previously examined empathy in association to other measures , where both longitudinal and cross section analysis produce different result, where longitudinal analysis shows non – related decrease in empathy while cross section analysis result shows that younger adults score high in empathy compared to older adult. From the study , both longitudinal and cross section not support age – related decline in longitudinal analysis and that empathy is related to quality of interaction in social setting.People with high depression demonstrated remarkable decline in empathy over a period of 12 years while people with high self acceptance ,low autonomy and positive affect low depression showed remarkable empathy increase over 12 years.

Among the adult empathy remain fairly constant across life span of adults and this imply that empathy foundation is created in early age. However the question arises whether there is different component of empathy that shows different projection of development over lifespan of adults (Grunt et al, 2008)
