As written in Pope Emeritus Benedict Wig’s Apostolic Letter Porto Fidel’, we, Christians, take faith for granted because we are more concerned with the impending consequences of the social, cultural and political aspects of life that we think faith is Just a mere manifested assumption. Personally, I was struck by this for I customarily think of the effects of what I would initially do and as a result, I usually do only what is to have a certain good outcome, and rather have little to no faith in what I do.I realized that my faith in personal circumstances is also the same faith that I have in God. With this, I have to have stronger faith in what I do as well as with God. The Year of Faith is an opportunity for me to reassess my basic faith in God, eventually leading me to my personal faith. As written in ‘Porto Fidel’, there is a need for stronger ecclesial commitment to the New Ventilation to rediscover belief and enthusiasm for communicating the faith.
With good faith, we are expecting a faithful and Christian living amidst all circumstances, giving us hope. Moreover, nourishment of faith is a lifelong commitment so the Year of Faith does not end its repose after a year, but rather a lifelong reflection of one’s faith on Him. Love is present in our faith in God, including love of God. It is His love that fills out hearts and drives us to evangelize.
It is the reason why God saved us in Jesus Christ. In return, we are ought to live our Christian lives based on the teachings of the church as well as to enlighten people, the community of disciples, with the Word of God.With faith in God and love of Christ, charity within us parishioners is innate to all for e are the living image of God. ‘As you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me’ (Mat 25:40). No matter how little or big, we naturally have empathy and sympathy to our brothers especially to the needy.
Our relationship with the needy tells us the kind of relationship we have with God. I am very thankful that Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI gave us another Year of Faith for I may have not realized what I am missing with my faith in God. Porto Video By Chris Roland-Valued
