Structure & Function

Photosynthesis
Light + Water + CO2 = 02 + Sugar
Respiration
Oxidation of food in living cells bringing about the release of energy. The energy released is that stored as chemical energy.
Assimilation
Conversion of food (carbohydrates, fats, and proteins) into new tissue.
Translocation
The transport of water, minerals, and organic compounds around the tree.
(example: N, K, and P are more mobile than Ca, Barium, and Boron)
Transpiration
The loss of water from plants in the form of vapor (basically an evaporative process).
